HISTORY OF ASPEN TREE SERVICE

In the early 1980’s, Paul Mansolilli was living and working in the Roaring Fork Valley when he decided to purchase a used grain truck with a dump bed to start performing job site clean-up and hauling on the side. Odd jobs kept flowing in and it was the cemetery clearing work that gave him the idea to go into business performing tree work. The first yellow page ad was placed in 1982 making that year the official origination date of Steamboat Lightscapes. For the first seven years of operation, Paul worked performing pruning and simple removals.

In 1993, Paul’s nephew, David Deyarmond, accepted an offer to join the team. Paul and David worked side-by-side, maintaining a trusted, professional tree care company. As the business continued to grow, David took over all sales and managed multiple crews, Paul managed the office. The desire to offer the client additional service lines including Plant Health Care, provided an opportunity to bring Jason Jones on board in 2005.

Jason Jones was hired as a plant health consultant, which quickly turned into a full-time opportunity. He brought with him a wealth of knowledge after his years of experience in Colorado, and helped expand the company’s offerings to include plant health care and more.

After Paul’s unexpected passing in 2017, Jason and David purchased the company. Today, David and Jason both credit the strong foundation Paul established for the organic growth of the business and for their inclusive company culture.

They’ve attracted a team of skilled employees who love to work and play together. The team training event in September is an annual highlight, where all the employees come together to learn from each other, enjoy a meal, and spend time together in the beautiful Colorado outdoors.

Though the business requires a lot of time, David and Jason enjoy it all—and still find time to give back to the community. In addition to donating to local nonprofits and working with local outdoor film festivals, they’re proud to be a part of the Tour des Trees to benefit The TREE Fund (Tree Research and Education Endowment Fund). Jason and other employees have rode their bikes to raise $20,000 for this organization, which supports scientific research and the sharing of knowledge in arboriculture and urban forestry.
